As a child, Liverpool midfielder Missy Bo Kearns would regularly peer over the Melwood wall in the hopes of catching a glimpse of some of her heroes.
Born and raised in Allerton, Kearns idolised the likes of Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard and dreamed of one day donning the famous red shirt herself. Fast forward to now, and the 22-year-old is an integral part of Matt Beard's Liverpool side and will this season get the chance to train on the hallowed Melwood turf as the Reds bid to become one of the most formidable forces in the women's game.
The West Derby site had been Liverpool’s training base for more than 70 years before Jurgen Klopp's side completed their move to the state-of-the art AXA Training Centre in Kirkby in November 2020. After initially being sold on to social housing developer Torus, Liverpool repurchased Melwood as a training facility for the women’s team earlier this year.
And Kearns believes the move could be key to elevating the Reds' performances in the Women's Super League (WSL) this term. "I think everyone knows it's a massive move," she said.

"But for me especially, the players that have played on the pitch where I'm going to be training on - Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, and the rest; and the amount of trophies they've brought back to Melwood - it's just massive. Being that little girl who was waiting outside to see them or who was standing on a bin to watch them train, it just makes me think the way the women's games going, there'll probably be young girls and boys standing on bins to watch us
