Mykhailo Mudryk has taken a cheeky dig at Bruno Guimaraes following their heated exchange during Chelsea's win over Newcastle United on Tuesday night. In the dying embers of the Carabao Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge, the Magpies midfielder recklessly launched himself into Ian Maatsen, swiping the Blues defender off his feet.
Furious with the challenge, Mudryk leapt to the defence of his teammate and squared up to Guimaraes. Their encounter sparked the Chelsea supporters into life, egging the Ukraine international on, before a mass brawl broke out.
As red mist descended, Mudryk, who scored the Blues' equaliser a few moments earlier, also faced off with Jamal Lascelles at one stage. A clip of the incident quickly went viral on social media, with Chelsea supporters hailing the Ukrainian for standing up for Maatsen.
Now that the dust has settled, Mudryk marked the west Londoners victory with a handful of celebratory posts on Instagram – one of which being a compilation of his highlights from the game. And in said video, the 22-year-old hilariously included his altercation with Guimaraes and Lascelles.
«Happy for our team, massive support from our fans, keep going [praying emoji and blue heart emoji],» wrote Mudryk under the Instagram Reel. In an hour or so, his post raked up nearly 100,000 likes from the likes of John Terry, Reece James and thousands of other Chelsea fans.
Mudryk scored Chelsea's fourth and final penalty of the shootout against Newcastle before Djordje Petrovic denied Matt Richie to book a place in the Carabao Cup semi-final. Mauricio Pochettino spoke to reporters after the game and explained how important of a win it was for the Blues.
