L’Équipe are reporting that Olympique de Marseille have re-established contact with Sheffield United’s Iliman Ndiaye (23), who had looked set to remain with the newly-promoted Premier League side.
As reported by RMC Sport earlier this week, Sheffield United looked set to retain the French attacking midfielder, a boyhood fan of Marseille. Having been a part of the youth setup with Les Phocéens, Ndiaye has imposed himself in England, scoring 15 goals and registering 12 assists last season.
He looked set to test himself in the Premier League, and whilst he may still do so, there is now renewed hope at Marseille that they will repatriate the 23-year-old this summer. Ndiaye has a contract that runs until the end of next season, and he had looked set to extend that deal. However, under pressure by Paul Heckingbottom to extend, Ndiaye is now less certain about his decision.
Within this context, contact between Ndiaye’s representatives and Marseille has been re-established in the past hours after a deal had previously been reached over a five-year deal with Les Phocéens. Marseille are now hopeful of a positive outcome, even if the deal remains complex.
