It looks like we have one of the most exciting Premier League title races in years on our hands with Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Aston Villa and Spurs all in contention.
However, fans will have noticed there's not been much in the way of action since the turn of the year. Last week only saw five fixtures while this week sees just four games in the top flight.
What's the reason for this dip in Premier League action? Well, it's quite simple. It's all part of the Premier League's 'winter break' which was introduced in the 2019/20 season, however it's not been in operation since for a number of reasons.
The pandemic struck in early 2020 meaning the following year's proposed break, in 2021, was cut to usher in the hectic schedule brought on by a truncated season, and then the December World Cup in Qatar came in 2022 meaning no break took place then either. This season, however, will finally see the return of the winter break, meaning a reduced set of fixtures for the next two weekends.
The break is aimed to allow every Premier League side to have ten days off or more without a league game across the break, however the FA Cup has somewhat put a spanner in the works when it comes to the amount of time some teams have had off. So, with this weekend seeing Arsenal vs Crystal Palace, Brentford vs Nottingham Forest, Sheffield United vs West Ham and Bournemouth vs Liverpool let's find out when they're on, what time they kick-off and how you can watch.
Arsenal and Palace will kick-off on Saturday, January 20 at 12:30pm. The game will be live onTNT Sports 1 and ultimate and there are several ways you can tune in.
