Michail Antonio praised Everton for the performance against his West Ham United side but said Beto’s opener fired them into action.
The striker was part of David Moyes’ matchday squad and came off the bench for the last 15 minutes. At that stage the game was tied after Kurt Zouma’s header had cancelled out Beto’s second-half goal. Beto had earlier missed a penalty, one of 11 efforts on goal from Everton.
Antonio acknowledged the Blues had dominated the first half and created plenty of missed opportunities. It is a recurring theme at Goodison Park, where Everton have recorded just three league wins during the campaign so far.
But the Jamaica international said West Ham’s reaction to going behind inspired a 3-1 win that was delivered courtesy of stoppage-time goals from Tomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez.

Speaking on The Players Channel, Antonio’s weekly BBC podcast, he reflected: “What is crazy is Everton actually played very well. I have to give it to them. First half they were all over us, obviously they missed a pen and had a couple of good opportunities that they didn’t take.
“Then it came to the second half, they still had a decent amount of possession and then they managed to score. As soon as they scored, that just turned us on. They scored, and we just completely turned the game around. We were like, ‘nah, we actually need to turn up here or else we are going to lose’.
