Inside 'totally new' venue that was a 'nightmare' to open

A new healthy brunch and juice bar named Pomegranate has opened on Old Hall Street.

Located in the former William Hill unit, guests can stop by for a range of fruit bowls, juices and smoothies, including unique extras such as bee pollen, açaí, pitaya, ashwagandha drops, black seed oil, and hemp powder. Specialist coffee from Monkeyboard is also available for sit-in or takeaway.

Pomegranate's founder, Joanna Jones, was also the owner of Blackberry Grove in New Brighton, which was awarded 'best independent eatery in the UK'. She walked away from running the business in 2018 but has since managed Liverpool’s Tabac cafe, Heswall’s Vegan Tapas and most recently The Mouse at Brimstage.

Despite her penchant for business, this is the first she has owned a venue in her hometown. She told the ECHO: "It’s really exciting for me and my family, even a little petrifying. I embrace the ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ motto fully, much to the dismay of my friends and family.

"Our coffee is a UK exclusive harvested at a farm in Quindío, Western Colombia. It’s more expensive as it is a premium but we don’t charge any more to our customers. We just want to offer the best of everything.”

Joanna admitted preparations didn't go as smoothly as she hoped which led to delays in opening. She added: "We have had a bit of a nightmare with different things throughout the process but we are only looking forward now. There’s still work to do inside but we were just desperate to get the doors open and let people see what we were about.
