Arsenal given Thomas Partey injury boost as Ghana midfielder set for short spell out

Thomas Partey's latest injury setback is not thought to be a serious one, football.london understands.

The Ghanaian international has played just 15 minutes since August due to a spate of muscle injuries. He has been sidelined since picking up a thigh injury in October that required surgery.

Partey made his return to full training not long after Arsenal's 5-0 win over Crystal Palace last month and took part in a training session at Emirates Stadium prior to the Gunners' 2-1 victory over Nottingham Forest. In the days leading up to the trip to the City Ground however, the 30-year-old suffered another blow on his road to recovery.

«With Thomas unfortunately we had a little setback a few days ago,» Mikel Arteta told reporters ahead of Arsenal's Premier League clash with Liverpool last week. «We’ll see if it’s a matter of days of weeks. But he had a little thing.

»I’m not a doctor, but he felt something in a very similar area and he wasn’t able to train the last few days."

It is thought that this latest setback will not be a serious one for Partey whose last start in an Arsenal shirt came in August. He is unlikely to be available for Sunday's trip to West Ham, but there is hope he can come back sooner rather than later after that.

Elsewhere Arsenal are continuing to monitor Oleksandr Zinchenko's fitness. The Ukrainian was forced to come off at half time during Sunday's 3-1 win over Liverpool by what Arteta revealed was a recurrence of a calf issue that saw him miss games around the New Year.

Should Zinchenko be absent then Arsenal will have
